Bhubaneswar: The grandest Odissi festival that started with five hundred fifty five Odissi dancers from across the globe performing at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar on 23rd December 2011, concluded on Friday.
The concluding day saw performances of 15 artistes in the morning. The evening session started with the dance performance of Suchitra Mohapatra and Group from Cuttack, a musical performance by Dhaneswar Swain and his troupe, Mahari dance by Rupashree Mohapatra and group, Gotipua dance by Nilakantheswara Gotipua Gurukul Dance Academy of Brahmagiri. Moreover, a group dance by Rudrakshya and dance drama ‘Dasanana’ by Guru Shradha from US, held the audience spell-bound.
The eight-day event witnessed excitment and indomitable spirit among the dancers starting from the young to the veterans of National and International repute who showcased a variety of dance forms.
Odissi exponents Sonal Mansingh, Illeana Citaristi, Sujata Mohapatra, Kumkum Mohanty, Minati Mishra, Aruna Mohanty, Meera Das performed during this eight-day festival along with 200 dancers from 17 countries.
Apart from dance, seminars and discussions on various subjects were organised throughout the cultural extravaganza.
The colourful programme was organised by Odisha Tourism, Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Odissi Research Centre in association with the US-based International Performing Arts Promotion (IPAP) , ICCR and National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama.
