Maa Tara Tarini TempleMaa Tara Tarini Temple is situated at a distance of 30 km from Berhampur city on a hill named Purnagiri. Here the twin goddess, Tara and Tarini are worshipped. Two stones, ornamented with gold and silver which looks like human faces represents goddess Tara and Tarini. Between the two stones, two beautiful brass heads are placed which is said to be their living image (called chalanti pratima in local language).

Tara Tarini Temple is recognized as the oldest pilgrimage center among the four Adi Shakti Peethas of India. The other three Adi Shakti Peethas are Bimala, Kamakshi (Assam) and Dakhina Kalika (West Bengal). Great religious texts like Shiva Purana and Kalika Purana says that the four Adi Shakti Peethas were originated from the limbs of the Corpse of Mata Sati.

Every year thousands of pilgrims visit Tara Tarini to worship the goddesses. One can easily get there from Berhampur city via taxi or bus service. The nearest Airport is Bhubaneswar (174 km) and nearest Railway station is Berhampur (32 km).
