Orissa Government focuses on larger technical manpower

Bhubaneswar, February 5, 2010: Deliberations were held between industry captains and government authorities on the issues faced by the industries in the state in an interactive session organised by the Confederation of the Indian Industry here on Friday.

Addressing the gathering of 65 representatives of the different industries in the state Chief Minister Mr Naveen Patnaik said that the Government of Orissa is concerned with the speedy industrialisation of the state, which will in a large way generate job opportunities. “To increase employability in the state, more technical education institutions must be set up. These institutions can be set up on Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis. Our aim is to set up at least one ITI in every block and I would appreciate if the industries set up as many of them as possible. The government also looks forward to all the plants that are coming up within the state to facilitate the setting up of ancillary units.”

Addressing the gathering Mr Saurabh Garg, Commissioner cum Secretary, Industries Department, Government of Orissa said, “Issues related to the industry was presented to the SLSWCA which asked the stakeholder departments to expedite various clearances.” He also asserted that the issues related to mining lease and prospecting licence are concerned, linkage with OMC and arrangements through existing mining owners have been proposed. “To solve power related issues, GRIDCO is identifying 4-5 clusters where strengthening of transmission is needed,” he added.

On environment issues, Mr RN Senapati, IAS, Agricultural Production Commissioner and Chairman, State Pollution Control Board, said, “It is also important for industries for to focus on the human face of industrialisation. We have formulated an excellent R&R policy, but it is important that before acquisition of land industry must interact with the locals in order to avoid any adverse impact, particularly in cases where forest land is concerned. Industries must ensure that pollution control devices are installed and pollution control measures are adhered to strictly.”

Mr Raghunath Mohanty, Minister of Industry, Steel and Mines, P&A department, said, “Industries should try to engage more and more locals. It has been observed that locals residing in these areas are bypassed by contractors from outside Orissa in some cases. Furthermore, industries can play a major role in the setting up of ITIs ITCs/ polytechnic colleges in the districts where they have set up their plants. It is also requested of you to provide more impetus to downstream or ancillary industries, which will help in generating employment and more marketing facilities in the concerned areas.”

The meeting was chaired by Mr SS Nandurdikar, Chairman, CII, Orissa State Council. Mr RK Jena, Vice Chairman, CII, Orissa State Council and Mr SP Nanda, IAS, Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Government of Orissa were also present on the occasion.
