Bhubaneswar: In a gruesome incident, Maoists on Thursday stabbed a person to death suspecting him of being a police informer in Bandhungaon block in Koraput district of Orissa.

The deceased was identified as Puala Sadaram, a ward member from Sanakamara village in Bandhugaon block.

According to the police, a group of armed Maoists raided the house of Sadaram and took him away from his village late on Wednesday night. “We could not oppose them as they all were well armed”, said a villager adding that they came to know about a dead body lying near their village this morning.

“On being informed we rushed to the spot and recovered the body of Sadaram with his throat slit with sharp weapon in a pool of blood, in a deserted forest area, near Kumaganda village and also seized three letters written in Oriya and Telugu”, said a police officer.

In another such incident in Keonjhar district, a CRPF van carrying jawans escaped unhurt in a landmine explosion triggered by Maoists in Kiribur area near Badbil in Keonjhar district at around 11 am this morning. Sources said that the vehicle carrying them suffered partial damage in the blast. The blast took place in Orissa-Jharkhand border area.

“They all were returning after a combing operation in Saranda jungle,” said Keonjhar District Superintendent of Police Mr. Asish Singh, adding that no one in the vehicle was injured in the blast which caused some damage to the vehicle. More security personnel have been sent to the area for combing operations.
