Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a youth on Thursday, died on the premises of the Seventh Battalion Police field during the physical endurance test for recruitment of police constables here.
The victim named Sheikh Imadat Ali (22) of Phulnakhara area near Cuttack, was suddenly found unconscious. He collapsed during a 1600 meters race and was immediately taken to Capital Hospital, where in the doctor declared him brought dead.
Seven thousand candidates came to participate in the physical test for 200 posts of constable. Tension geared up after the death news. People blocked the Nalco square alleging that delay and negligence in taking the victim to the hospital resulted in his death.
On the other hand, refuting the allegation Rekha Lohani, a senior Police Officer-in-Charge of recruitment said, “After hearing the mishap, without any delay we took him to the hospital, no mis-management was caused by us. I personally attended the candidate. We also have all the first-aid facilities available here”. We have informed his parents, added Lohani.
Police reached the spot and controlled the rabble.
In another incident in Bolangir constable recruitment, one more youth named Jyoti Ranjan Panda from Titlagarh cracked his leg while appearing for the rope riding test. He was taken to the hospital and the fractured leg was taken care of.
