Uttar Pradesh: The world’s population touched another milestone today as India and the Philippines welcomed “symbolic” seven billionth babies.
A girl child named Nargis born in this village on Monday has been declared the seven billionth baby of the world based on the law of probability and an intricate set of calculations by the UN.
Even though United Nations Population Fund (UNPF) has not pinpointed where the landmark baby would be born, experts have identified this village, near Uttar Pradesh capital Lucknow, as the site of the momentous event.
A function was held at the Community Health Centre here in association with children welfare NGO Plan India and the Health Department.
The Philippines also welcomed a seven billionth baby at a government hospital in Manila.
Weighing 2.5kg, Danica May Camacho was chosen by the United Nations to be one of several children around the world who will symbolically represent the global population milestone.
She was delivered just before midnight on Sunday amid an explosion of press camera flashes at Manila’s Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital.
