New Delhi: Indian Cricket Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Country’s Leading Shooter and Olympic Gold Medalist, Abhinav Bindra were conferred with an honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel on Tuesday.
In a special function, Army Chief General, V.K. Singh, conferred this honor for their outstanding contribution in the field of Sports and their commitment to the Army on various occasions.
Dr. Deepak Ranjan Rao, trainer for combating terrorism has also been conferred the honorary commission in the Rank of Major in the Territorial Army.
When asked by his wife Sakshi Singh Rawat as regards to how he will serve the army as he is now conferred with an honorary rank, Dhoni replied, “As a cricketer it is difficult to get time from the busy schedule. But whenever I will get time I will visit the borders and meet the army men who guard our borders and protect us.”
