Bhubaneswar: The Orissa police on Sunday arrested hardcore Maoist cadre from Damsiri forest in Koraput district and seized two country-made rifles from him.
Kursuna, one of the most wanted Maoists in the State police list, was apprehended during a raid operation by the local Narayanpatna police on a Maoist camp. A dozen of other cadres who were present in the camp managed to flee from the place.
“Kursuna is involved in at least 11 cases of violence, including three murders. He was on the police run for last three years,” sub-inspector Chandra Sekhar Pujari of Naryanpatna Police Station said.
The police also recovered Maoist posters and booklets from Kursuna, the Inspector said. The accused had a different story to tell the media. He said he had severed ties with the Maoist movement long ago and was never involved in any crimes.
“I have been framed by the police. The guns which police seized from me were being used to protect my family against attack of wild animals.
In another development, the police recovered a powerful landmine from Nalachua village under the same Narayanpatna police limit. The explosive device, suspected to have been planted by the Bansadhara Division of the red rebels, was placed under a culvert targeting the paramilitary forces engaged in combing operation in the area.
