Bhubaneswar: Owing to the discontent and demands from several quarters, the State Government has demolished an illegal embankment on the path of Gangua natural drainage channel near Samantarapur in Bhubaneswar.

The Gangua Banchao Committee was set up demanding demolition of the concrete culvert built over the Gangua nullah by a builder due to which vast areas near Gangua used to face severe water-logging problem due to choking of the natural drain, which is creating flood situation in the rainy season.

Sangram Paikray, Convener of Gangua Banchao Samiti, said: “We are happy that the Government demolished the embankment.”

Adding more he said, this step by the Government will teach appropriate lesson to the concerned builder and other builders involved in illegal constructions.

Sources said that the committee members have threatened to strengthen the postponed Andolan, if the culvert is not broken. Moreover they have also demanded that strict action should be taken by the Government against the builder and the Drainage Department Official who has neglected his duty.
