Bhubaneswar, Oct 3: In a tragic road accident, at least ten people were killed on Thursday, and another ten were seriously injured while a fully loaded passenger bus collide with a truck near Bandhamunda in Gosala area on NH-6 under Burla police station in Sambalpur district.
The deceased were identified as Rama Maharana, Sonali Moharana, Sanjukta Moharana, Nilachal Hota belonged to Baragada and Rourkela area while identity of the rest of the deceased is yet to be confirmed.
According to the police, the bus collided with a truck early in this morning while it was going to Rourkela from Bargada. “Six persons died on the spot while other four were declared brought dead at VSS medical college and hospital,” said Debi Prasad Das, SDPO Burla.
“On being informed, we rushed to the spot, and sent the bodies for post-mortem. We also admitted the injured at the same hospital where the condition of three were stated to be serious,” added Mr Das. Preliminary investigation revealed that both the vehicles were on high speed and both the drivers lost control over their vehicles, said Mr Das adding that investigation is on to know the actual reason into the unfortunate incident.
On the other hand, local people complained about non-response of the local police saying they did not responded to their phone call; and then they blocked the National Highway. “We telephoned the local police station and the out post but it was not getting connected. So we informed the SP and only after his direction police came to the spot,” alleged one Subash Bhoi a local.
In a similar incident 18 people were injured three seriously while a Bhubaneswar bound passenger bus fell down into 40 feet dip well near Simulia in Balasore district. Injured persons were admitted into the Simulia hospital while the condition of the three were stated to be serious.
