Bhubaneswar: Owing to the discontent and demands from several quarters, the State Government had started the demolition of an illegal embankment on the path of Gangua natural drainage channel near Samantarapur in Bhubaneswar.
In three days only 1/4th portion of the embankment has been removed. This has created severe dissatisfaction amongst the members of the Committee.
The committee members had a meeting on Sunday where in MLA Mr. Ashok Panda had strongly criticized the Government. Moreover, Ccmmittee members Surya Dash and Sangram Keshari Paikaray had shown strong discontent and had threatened if the rest of the work does not start quickly they will protest strongly.
When asked about this negligence, Sanjay Kumar Patnaik, Asst. Engineer, Drainage Department, said, the work has proceeded as instructed by the senior officials . The rest of the work will begin soon as we receive any further instructions .
It is note worthy to mention that the Gangua Banchao Committee was set up demanding demolition of the concrete culvert built over the Gangua nullah by a builder due to which vast areas near Gangua used to face severe water-logging problem due to choking of the natural drain, which is creating flood situation in the rainy season.
