Nowrangpur: The Biju Janata Dal on Wednesday announced Subash Ganda as its candidate for the forthcoming Umerkote assembly by-election. Ganda, an aide of the deceased MLA Jagabandhu Majhi, is a Panchayat Samiti member at present. Sources said the family members of slain BJD MLA Jagabandhu Majhi had proposed the name of Subash.

Party president and chief minister Naveen Patnaik announced Mr Ganda’s name at the state secretariat. A seven-member team headed by revenue minister Surya Narayan Patro had earlier submitted a list of probable candidates to the chief minister, leaving him to take the final decision.

Previously the Congress hadn BJP had declared Jatindra Ganda and Dharmu Gandha as their candidates respectively.
