New Delhi: The nation today remembered the Country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on his 122nd birth anniversary.

President Pratibha Devisingh Patil, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, Chief of India’s ruling Congress party paid tribute to the country’s first Prime Minister.

Other than Mrs. Patil, Mr. Ansari, Mr. Singh and Gandhi, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dixit, also paid floral tribute and offered prayers at the Nehru Memorial, Shanti Van, on the occasion.

The day is also observed as ‘Children’s Day’ across India, as Nehru had a great affection for children. They fondly called him ‘Chacha’ Nehru.

Nehru emphasized the importance of giving love and affection to children, who he saw as the bright future of India, and this ideal is celebrated on this day.

Nehru was born to Motilal Nehru and Swaroop Rani on November 14, 1889 in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh and his birthday is celebrated as Children’s Day in India as he was fond of kids.
