Bhubaneswar: A State Level Workshop on Non Timber Forest Products (NTFP) Resource Assessment had been organised from 16th to 17th November, 2011 at Hotel The New Marrion, Bhubaneswar.

The basic aim of the workshop was to impart training to Regional Chief Conservator of Forests, Working Plans Officer, Divisional Forest Officers and Forest Range Officers to train the Forest Officers to make potentiality study in forests.

The Workshop was inaugurated by Sri Debi Prasad Mishra, Hon’ble Minister, Forest and Environment. He emphasized the involvement of Gram Panchayat, V.S.S, in conservation of Natural Resources and Scientific Collection, Processing, Value Addition and Marketing of NTFP for socio-economic upliftment of Tribals and other local community.

Adding more Mr. Mishra said, as the tribals revolve around forest and forest products for their subsistance they should be trained about sustainable management.

Dr. K. D.Singh I. F.S (Retd.), discussed elaborately on the necessity for a pragmatic sustainable managing of NTFC species to conserve these precious renewable natural resources and to provide livelihood security to the tribals, forest dwellers and local dwellers.

Amongst others this workshop was attended by Sri P.N. Padhi, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Dr. K. D.Singh I. F.S (Retd.), Sri J.K.Tiwari, IFS, CCF (Central) , M.O.E.F. Government of India, Sri B.P.Singh, IFS and other Senior Forest officers of M.O.E.F, Government of India and State Forest Department.
