Bhubaneswar, 18th November 2011: Khimji (KD & Sons), the largest jewellery and fashion house of Odisha and Eastern India, today got felicitated by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for being the first BIS Hallmark licensee in Odisha, at the valedictory ceremony of the weeklong BIS Hallmarking Awareness Programme conducted by BIS, Eastern Region from 14th to 18th November 2011. Mr. Kishore Khimji, Managing Director, Khimji (KD & Sons) received the memento from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), at the valedictory ceremony held tomorrow at Bhubaneswar. It may be noted here that besides being the first BIS Hallmark licensee of Odisha, Khimji (KD & Sons) is also the first jewellery house in Odisha to become 100% BIS certified.
The valedictory function was also graced by Ms. Alka Panda, IAS, Additional Director General, BIS; Mr. G C Hazra, Scientist F & Head of Bhubaneswar Branch Office, BIS; Dr. D K Chaudhari, Dy. Director General (Eastern Region), BIS and several other jewellery retailers of Odisha.
Speaking in this moment of glory, Mr. Kishore Khimji, Managing Director, Khimji (K.D. & Sons) said, “This recognition and felicitation by BIS is testimony to our consistent efforts over the last 75 years to promote and encourage transparency, purity and trust in the jewellery trade in Odisha. With our strong resolve to maintain purity in quality of Gold jewellery, Khimji was the first jeweller in Odisha to become a BIS hallmark licensee and also the first jewellery retailer to become 100% BIS certified.
Also, as part of our customer awareness initiative on purity and quality we recently had a communication campaign featuring our Brand Ambassador and Ollywood super star Siddhant Mohapatra on BIS Hallmarking, which guarantees purity and ensures highest quality standards in Gold. It is a matter of pride for us that today the most esteemed organization Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) recognized our efforts and felicitated us. We are very soon coming up with our niche store at Bhubaneswar Airport.”
The valedictory ceremony also witnessed granting of BIS licenses to several jewellery retailers in the state. It may be noted here that, BIS organized a week long “Awareness Week on Hallmarking” from 14th-18th November 2011 under the jurisdiction of its Eastern Regional Office, which covers the states of Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and all the seven North Eastern states.
The Inaugural Ceremony of this awareness programme was held at Kolkata on 14th November. The primary objective of this weeklong awareness programme was to spread the benefits of BIS Hallmarking Scheme to the consumers, jewellers & artisans of the entire region. This weeklong programme basically imparted training to the personnel of Assaying and Hallmarking centers, who carry out the testing of the jewellery before they are hallmarked. Interactive programmes like Nukkad Natak, Street plays etc were also performed at several places in these states during this awareness week celebrations.
