Bhubaneswar: In a high level meeting at Naveen Niwas, Chief Minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik on Monday directed the officials to ensure that all the 2, 70,943 beneficiary students under the free bicycle scheme should be provided cheques by November 30, 2011.

Girl students reading in Class-X in Government and Government-aided schools and boys belonging to SC and ST in 118 tribal Sub-Plan blocks are being covered under the bicycle scheme which is implemented out of the State’s own fund.

Mr. Patnaik also directed that the Department of School should ensure that all the beneficiaries purchase cycles by January 31, 2012. Till now, as many as 1, 17,181 students have been given cheques to purchase cycles and 21,166 students have already purchased their cycles.

Besides this special provision has been made by providing a toll free student helpline number – 1800-2450061, where in any complaints regarding any problem or any irregularity in the distribution of cheques can be made by the students.

Similarly, Mr. Patnaik also reviewed the free school uniform scheme and asked the Circle Inspectors of Schools to supervise the scheme.

Under the free school uniform scheme, four pairs of free school uniform are distributed to all SC/ST students and the students belonging to BPL families reading in Class one to eight by December 31. As many as 51 lakh students would be benefitted by the scheme, sources said.
