Bhubaneswar:Anti-Posco Activist and CPI leader Mr. Abhay Sahoo, was arrested on Friday at 07:40 pm by Jagatsinghpur police.

He was arrested at a place called ‘Nua Pokhari’ near Erasama in Jagatsinghpur district, when he was returning from Bhubaneswar to Gobindpur.

Latest report says he has been now kept in Jagatsinghpur police station.

Mr. Sahoo is the President of Posco Pratirodh Sangram Samiti (PPSS), a Communist Party of India (CPI) backed organisation, which has been spearheading agitation against the proposed USD 12 billion steel project by South Korean Company, Posco in the region.The protestors have blocked roads by putting wooden barricades and digging up village roads to prevent entry of Government officers to acquire lands for the project.

PPSS members strongly condemned the arrest of Abhaya Sahu. They said the arrest of Mr. Sahoo will not weaken their protest rather their protest will be more stronger than before and that they will continue to protest till the project is completely scrapped.

It is note-worthy to mention that earlier, police had arrested Mr.Sahoo, on 12th October, 2008. He got bail from the High Court on 20th August, 2009.
