Bhubaneswar: Noted Odia poet Rajendra Kishore Panda would be conferred with the prestigious Gangadhar National Award for Poetry.
The Award is instituted by Sambalpur University in memory of eminent poet Gangadhar Meher (1862-1924).
The award carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a shawl and a citation.
Till now a galaxy of poets of various Indian languages including Alli Sardar Zafri, Kedar Nath Singh, Ayyapa Panikar, Shakti Chottopadhyaya, K Satchidanandan, Dillip Chitre, Jayanta Mohapatra, Gulzar, Nabakanta Barua, Prof AMK Shahryar, Nirupam Kaur, Binda Karandikar, Haraprasad Dash and Ramakant Rath have already received the award.
Mr.Panda is the 20th recipient of the award.
This prestigious award would be presented to him on on 4th January 2012, on the occasion of the foundation day of Sambalpur University.
Rajendra Kishore Panda was born in 1944 , in Sambalpur. He is a major poet in Oriya literature. He is the author of sixteen books of poetry, as well as editor of two web anthologies of poetry(Kavitayan and Varnamala) and a web journal(The Cogitocrat).
His contribution to Oriya literature has won him various honours, including the Sahitya Akademi Award (1985), the Senior Fellowship for Literature awarded by the Department of Culture, Government of India (1994 – 1996) and a D. Litt degree, honoris causa(Sambalpur University, 2004).
He worked in the Indian Administrative Service from 1967 to 2004.
