Bhubaneswar:The all-India bandh was called by the All India Retailer and Traders Association on Thursday.

In Cuttack, major business centres Malgodown and Chhatra bazaar shops were completely shut down.

Like wise in Bhubaneswar, Aiginia and Sahid Nagar markets, shops in Unit-I and Unit-IV were closed.

Due to the bandh, the traders in Cuttack sustained a loss of an estimated Rs 100 crore, they said.

As said by Sudhakar Panda, Secretary Orissa Byabasai Sangha, “the 12-hour dawn to dusk bandh resulted in the loss of about 10 crores.”

The All Odisha Roadside Vendors’Association (AORVA) burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi in protest against the FDI decision.

The bandh was backed by different political parties, trade unions and socio-cultural organisations.
BJP’s traders’ cell also backed the shutdown and asked business establishments across the State to stop all activities during the protest.
