Bhubaneswar: Four Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were arrested on Friday in connection with looting Rs 6.71 lakh and 250 grams of gold ornaments from a Chhattisgarh based businessman named Sohan Goichha on Monday.
The Chhattisgarh police in assistance with their Odisha counterparts investigated into the case and arrested the accused.
According to Nowrangpur District Superintendent of Police Niti Sekhar, the CRPF personnel on Monday morning stopped Chhattisgarh based jeweler Sohan Goichha at Khiloli check gate under Kundei police station and searched his vehicle.
“When the jawans came across the jewelry and cash during search of the vehicle, they took Sohan and his driver to a secluded room near the check gate and kept them in confinement for six hours before leaving them with a warning not to inform police,” said Mr. Sekhar.
Soon after his release, Sohan registered a police complaint in his State.
“They threatened that they would kill me if I disclose the incident outside or register a police case,” Mr. Sohan said.
The arrested accused include Assistant Commandant Ramdas Meena, Bashir Ahmed, Ajit Das and Jaga Singh.
The police seized the robbed money and ornaments from the accused and returned them to the businessman.
The businessman thanked the Odisha and Chhattisgarh police for their prompt action.
