Bhubaneswar: Suspected Maoists on Thursday night, blew up two mobile towers in Odisha’s Koraput district apparently to assert their presence in the district.
The attack, came on the first day of the People Liberation of Guerrilla Army (PLGA) week.
Meanwhile, fearing attacks by the rebels, both Government and Private buses kept off the roads while shops and business establishments remained closed.
State Director General of Police, Manmohan Praharaj, while assuring people in the Maoist-infested southern Odisha said, “elaborate security arrangements were made to pre-empt attempts of violence by the ultras.”
“Around 15 rebels on Thursday night set on fire to mobile towers – one at Mathaguda and the other at Dayabad. They also damaged the buildings near by”, said Niranjan Parida, Baipariguda police inspector.
The police seized maoists posters from many places in the district.
The ultras have urged in the posters to local people to make the observance of PLGA week a success.
