Bhubaneswar: State Government on Friday urged the Central Government to release early assistance of Rs.3,265.38 crore for the relief and rehabilitation work in the regions hit by the twin floods that hit the State in September.

It is noteworthy to mention that 21 out of the 30 districts of Odisha were affected by the twin floods. The State Government then had asked the centre to provide assistance of Rs.3,265.38 crore and to release adhoc assistance of Rs.1,000 crore.

Odisha Chief Minister wrote a letter to Pranab Mukherjee, Union Minister of Finance, to convene a meeting of the high level committee who will decide upon the release of the flood assistance as no fund has been released yet.

Mr. Patanik wrote that “the Union Government after receiving the letter of Odisha Government had deputed an inter-ministerial team for assessment of the losses and requirement of central assistance, and have already sent their reports.”

“The Central team concluded their assessment on 30th September. But the high level committee which will take the final decision on the matter has not yet been convened. Hence no fund has been released.” Mr. Patnaik wrote.

“I shall be grateful if you kindly convene the meeting for considering the claim and take steps to release central assistance soon, wrote Mr.Patnaik.”
