Bhubaneswar: Ruling BJD’s Subash Gond defeated the candidates from Congress and BJP in a triangular contest in the Umerkote By-Poll. The election for Odisha’s Maoist-infested Umerkote assembly seat in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district was held amongst elaborate security arrangements, where in 73% people turned on to cast their votes. 

The tribal constituency witnessed a triangular contest between Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Dharmu Gond, Congress’s Jatindranath Gond and ruling BJD’s Subash Gond.

It is note worthy to mention that the by-election for the Umerkote assembly seat, reserved for Scheduled Tribes, has been necessitated after Biju Janana Dal (BJD) member, Jagabandhu Majhi was killed on September 24.
