Bhubaneswar: Athgarh MLA Ramesh Rout was attacked on Saturday by a group of armed youths during a health camp at Athgarh.
“The condition of MLA Ramesh Rout is quite alright,” the sub-collector Mr. Trilochan Pradhan said.
The sub-collector said the health camp continued after the youths were taken into custody by the police.
Sources said the attackers belonged to a rival BJD group. They were unhappy over “irregularities” in some construction works in the constituency.
The police has registered case and is investigating into the incident.
According to reports, the lathi-wielding youths launched a lethal assault on the ruling BJD-supported independent MLA Mr Rout as he was monitoring the proceedings at the health camp.
In a bid to save his life, the legislator snatched away a lathi from one of the attackers and retaliated.
Hearing the news of the attack, local sub-collector Trilochan Pradhan rushed to spot with police and rescued the MLA.
