Bhubaneswar: Suspected Maoists on Saturday gunned down a contractor at Bikrampur under Narayanpatna police limit in Odisha’s Koraput district.

On Friday, the ultras had set two mobile towers – one belonging to the BSNL and the other one being that of Airtel – on fire at Baipariguda in the same district.

The mask-wearing miscreants first attacked the workers with the gun butts and asked them to leave the place immediately.

Then they slit the throat of Bidika and later pumped several bullets into his body before fleeing the place.

Locals said a group of heavily armed rebels waylaid contractor Rabindra Bidika and two of his workers when they were returning home at around 7 pm from the work site.

Since Bikrampur is a forested area and hotbed of the Maoists, the police did not visit the spot even after being informed about the incident by the relatives of the victims. The police suspected that the rebels might have laid out a trap to strike heavy casualties.
