Bhubaneswar: About 165 inmates of a Government run Sevashram school in the tribal dominated and Maoist-affected Rayagada district left their hostel, alleging that they had been neglected by the authorities.
Before leaving the students have burnt certain papers of the hostel. Moreover they had put many handwritten posters regarding their problems in the walls of the school and at Telengapadar Chhack.
Their problems included lack of drinking water facility, inadequate teaching staff, non-payment of pocket money, health problems, incomplete hostel building for girl students and ill-behaviour from the Principal.
A total 326 students, from class I to class X, belonging to Goiguda, Bankili, Badabankili, Aliganda, Jugapadar, Tariguda Kerenja, Bandhiri, and Jarapa village study in the school out of which 205 are boys and 121 are girls. Of them, 165 boys and 100 girls were living in the school hostel.
Despite writing to the authorities about the problems, the authorities didn’t pay any attention to it. Annoyed over the negligence, the students put up posters and fled from the hostel.
