Bhubaneswar: In a bid to provide better care to new-born children, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, known for announcing popular sops and “appeasing” packages, on Tuesday announced a15-day paternity leave for male Government employees. Similarly the maternity leave period was enhanced from three months to six months upto the second child.
The decision was made in a State level meeting under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister Mr. Naveen Patnaik, at Naveen Niwas on Monday.
The Government introduced the new leave system in order to facilitate parents of new born children. The decision in this regard will come into force retrospectively from December 1.
It is noteworthy to mention that, female Government employees were earlier entitled to avail 90 days of maternity leave, while there was no such provisions for males.
However, the Government has not taken the decision itself. The decision regarding the new child birth related leave was introduced as per the recommendation of the sixth pay commission, sources said.
