Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday directed all the Developmental Authorities in the State and the State Housing Board to stop allotment of land, plots and houses under the discretionary quota in urban areas, which was in practice since long.

The State Government has taken this decision after being criticized by different spheres due to the misuse of the discretionary power, after State Law and Rural Development Minister, Mr. Bikram Keshari Arukh illegally availed two houses under the discretionary quota.

The General Administration Department was alloting land in the State capital based on the recommendation of a committee headed by the Director of Estate since 1998.

From now in case of land in Bhubaneswar under the disposal of the General Administration Department, new committee headed by the Chief Secretary Mr. B.K Patnaik and Principal Secretaries in the Finance, Law, Revenue, Housing and Urban Development and General Administration as members, will examine the proposal for allotment of land in Bhubaneswar, sources said.

In case of land allotment by the Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO) in the state capital, the Government has decided to constitute a separate committee to take the final decision.
