Renowned cartoonist, illustrator and artist Mario Miranda, known for his cartoons on Goan life, passed away at his residence in Loutolim, Goa on Sunday.

“He had been suffering prolonged illness and died peacefully in his sleep,” said Habiba Miranda, widow of the deceased 85-year old cartoonist.

It is noteworthy to mention that Mirandawas awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2002 and the Padma Shri in 1988. The Goa Government honoured him with its State Cultural Award in 2008 and the ‘State Reward’ for receiving the Padma Bhushan.

Besides this, Miranda had also designed several books during his career.
