Bhubaneswar: Justice M B Shah, on a meeting at State’s Guest House on Monday, told mediapersons about the conclusion of a State-level public hearing in course of the commission’s probe into the multi-crore mining scam and pointed out at the bureaucrat’s involvement over illegal mining.
“The bureaucrats are directly responsible for the irregularities, we are not having any evidence on the involvement of politicians. If there any such report is revealed, it is a matter of investigation,” said Justice Shah.
Adding more, Justice Shah said, “The increase in the illegal mining activities has taken place because of boom in the export of iron ore. The price of iron ore on export to International market increases following a huge demand. About 92 per cent of iron ore is exported to China of which number of persons were benefited.”
In the on-going meeting, 50 participants from among the 134 individuals, NGOs and political parties, made their views known to the Commission by submitting memorandums. Majority of the including members of the Odisha Jana Sammilani, Congress, RTI activist Biswajit Mohanty and BJP demanded CBI probe into the mining scam.
Later, Justice Shah expressed his satisfaction on the steps taken by the State Government in curbing illegal mining and export of minerals.
