Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and former Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain alias Raja whose nomination for 2009 Assembly elections had been rejected, returned to Odisha on Thursday after winning his case in the Supreme Court on the Athagarh Assembly Election.

Earlier the Apex Court headed by Justice R M Lodha and Justice Jagdish Singh Teher had rejected the appeal of MLA Ramesh Rout from the constituency and upheld the Odisha High Court order declaring his election null and void while directing for a fresh poll.

Slogan-shouting supporters welcomed him at Cuttack railway station with flower garlands and bouquets and took out a rally. A huge gathering of about 10,000 people had gathered at Cuttack to welcome Mr. Swain. With this he has proved to the BJD High command that the people of Athgarh still support him.
