Bhubaneswar:The Department of Philosophy of Ravenshaw University organized a Seminar on “Mahima Dharma and National Reconstruction” to mark World Philosophy Day on December 21. The seminar, sponsored by the prestigious Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, was held in the Heritage Hall of the University. Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Baishab Charan Tripathy inaugurated the seminar and delivered the inaugural address.

Professor and HOD Philosophy Dr. Rama Chandra Majhi, gave the welcome address and introduced the guests, former Professor of Philosophy Utkal University, Dr. Tandra Pattnaik, President of Odisha Rationalist Association Professor Dhaneswar Sahoo and Prof. B.N. Ray from University of Delhi.

In her lecture, Prof. Patnaik spoke on the origin, development, philosophy and quintessence of the Mahima cult. She described it as a universal religion and the true religion of man. She appealed everyone to imbibe the real essence of the Mahima cult, which is praying selflessly for the betterment and deliverance of the whole mankind. At the outset, she stressed on including Odia philosophical texts in the syllabus.

Similarly, Prof. Sahoo threw light on the historical origin of the cult and explained its philosophy.

Some students of the Department also spoke on the occasion. VC’s Scholar Pritimanjari Khuntia spoke on the topic ‘The Concept of Ultimate Reality in Mahima Dharma. PG final year student Chinmayee Pradhan spoke on ‘Morality in Mahima Dharma’, while Jayashree Pradhan of the same class deliberated on the topic ‘Casteless Society in Mahima Dharma’.
