Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Thursday demanded a thorough inquiry into the alleged involvement of politicians in the illegal mining trade in Odisha.
Raising the question in the zero hour BJP legislature Party leader KV Singhdeo asked the State Government to move a resolution in the Assembly in order to completely ban export of iron ore and manganese from the State.
“If the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is sincere about putting a ban on the export of finite mineral resources, a resolution should be passed in the House that Odisha does not want its minerals to be exported, particularly iron ore”, Singhdeo said.
Stating that writing letters or making statements were not sufficient to stop export of mineral from the State, Singhdeo said that the State Government should move a motion for passing in the House.
“Mineral being finite resources, it should be utilised carefully. Though Justice Shah Commission has favoured a ban on the export, the State should pass a resolution”, Singhdeo said.
BJP had been claiming that the multi-crore mining scam would not have been possible without the help of politicians and bureaucrats as indicated by Justice Shah Commission in its interim report.
Independent member Pratap Sarangi and Damodar Rout supporting Singhdeo demanded that an that an impartial agency must be asked to probe into the alleged politicians involvement in the illegal mining activities.
