Bhubaneswar: Keeping in mind the soaring inflation and rising demands for infrastructure development, members of Odisha Assembly on Thursday demanded a hike in the Local Area Development (LAD) fund.

To a question of Ramesh Chandra Chaupatnaik (BJD) and other supplementaries from other members, State Planning and Coordination Minister A U Singh Deo said , the issue was under active consideration of the Government. ” I will discuss the matter with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Finance Minister P C Ghadai”, the Minister said.

Participating in the discussion, several other members, including Senior BJD Member Damodar Rout, Mr Anup Sai (Congress) demanded the Government to raise the MLA LAD fund from Rs 1 crore to Rs 3 crores in the wake of the hike in MP LAD fund from Rs 2 crores to Rs 5 crores.

Prasanta Nanda of the NCP alleged that the assistance provided to specific projects under LAD fund is not released in time and sought a direction from the Chair to the concerned authorities to ensure tiely decisions on projects taken up with LAD funds.
