Bhunaneswar: After being allegedly refused admission into a Government hospital, a woman delivered a baby in a truck cabin at Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district.
The incident took place late on Thursday, outside the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Danagadi.
Bhanumati Mahanta (21) of Sainkula village under Tomka police station had labour pains late in the night. She was brought to the hospital in a truck, but the hospital allegedly refused to admit her saying that the doctor will be coming next morning, and advised to admit her to area hospital at Jajpur Road.
“Finding a woman attendant in the hospital we rushed to the doctors quarters. But all in vain. My wife gave birth to the baby on the truck cabin in front of the hospital at 2 am”, said Ajit Kumar Mahanta, husband of Bhanumati.
When asked about the incident, Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO), Jajpur, Deepak Prustry said, “I will inquire into the incident and take appropriate action against the erring staff,” he said.
