Bhubaneswar: The first ‘India Surf Festival’, a three-day event organised by Surfing Yogis, who introduced the sports to this part of the world only a year back, will begin from February 7, 2012 at Ramchandi beach along the Puri-Konark Marine Drive.

Surfers from across the world will have their footprints in Odisha as the State’s coastline creates its presence on the global surfing map.

It may be noted that over 70 surfers from India and abroad are expected to participate in the event. Along with the members of Surfing Yogis, two surfers of the State who have trained well and gained expertise, a local boy Pratap Singh and Spandan Banerjee would be joining the event.

Surfing Yogis chief and head of Rangers Adventure Foundation (RAF) Sanjay Samantray said, the event has ignited huge interest in the global surfing community with Guillermo Pena of Italy of World Surfing federation, Didier Latife of France, Fernando Ekahi Labad of Spain coming down to take part in the festival.

Moreover, the festival would be covered internationally with surf movie companies from Bali and Spain filming the entire event along with internationally-renowned surf photographers.

Besides, the organisers have already received more than 600 participation requests of surfers, tourists and buffs. For this, arrangements are being made in association with hotels apart from the tents of RAF to accommodate the tourists.

The festival will continue till February 9, 2012.
