Bhubaneswar: Lawyers of All Orissa Lawyers’ Association, in the 40th All Odisha Lawyers Conference on Thursday, have pressed the Government to address the problems of the needy and the poor among the fraternity and extend support to the Advocates’ Welfare Fund instituted by the State Bar Council.
The lawyers complained that though the State Government had assured to provide a matching grant to lawyers, to uplift the lawyers in Odisha, nothing has been initiated yet.
Adding more the lawyers said that, their longstanding demand of a land in Bhubaneswar for their own building was also unheard by the Government. Though the Law Minister last year had assured the land,but nothing has progressed since then.
On this ocassion, Supreme Court judge A K Patnaik, indicated that certain sections of the Land Acquisition Act were being misused by the State Government and emphasized on the role of media in the present legal system. He urged media to be responsible while reporting on matters that are sub judice.
Another Supreme Court judge A K Ganguly urged the lawyers to uphold the glorious tradition of Indian legal system through professional approach.
Retired Supreme Court judge Dr A Pasayat had special praise for the lawyers practising in subordiante judiciary.
Among others, Dharnidhar Nayak, Presideent of AOLA, Manas Mohapatra, Reception Committee Chairman, Hrudananda Routray, President Bhubaneswar Bar Association were present in the conference.
The conference, organised by the Bhubaneswar Bar Association, would come to an end on Friday.
