Cuttack: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued notice to the Chairman of Railway Board seeking an explanation as to why the Railways must not be directed to pay compensation to Benudhar Bhoi, who lost his legs after he was allegedly thrown out of the running train near Jajpur Road Railway station by a TTE in 2009.

As per sources, the Chairman has been directed by the NHRC to file response within six weeks. Bhoi had allegedly been pushed by the TTE between Jakhapur and Jajpur Road railway station in May 2009 as he and his cousin Pradeep were travelling without ticket. He was serious injured and was sifted to SCB hospital where his right leg had to be cut off.

Taking up this matter, advocate Prabir Das filed a petition with NHRC which had asked the Railway Ministry and the Railway Board to respond to the allegations, seeking rehabilitation for the victim.

However, a case was also registered by Bhadrak Government Railway Police (GRP). The GRP in its inquiry had found the TTE guilty and also submitted a chargesheet in the sub divisional judicial magistrate court, Bhadrak.
