Marine Surveys around Scotland unearthed rare sea creatures including phosphorescent sea pen- so named that it resembles a glowing quill as well as a christmas tree. The sea pen is a colony of sea bed dwelling polyps that lights up when touched.

As per sources, the species was unearthed in series of 15 marine surveys in 2011, covering over 2,000 square miles using acoustic multi-beam scanners and high-defination cameras. Dozens of rare, strange species were found in Scottish waters that glows.

Around the small Islands more than 100 specimens were discovered during this surveys, the largest aggregation in the UK waters.
