Puri: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s injured foot spoiled his wish of seeking the blessings of Lord Jagannath on the New Year’s day during his visit to the temple here on Sunday.

As per sources, Naveen entered the 12th century shrine through the ‘Singhadwar’ (Lion’s Gate) but unfortunately returned without having darshan of the deities after failing to climb the Baisi Pahacha (22 steps) of the shrine to reach the sanctum sanctorum.

Naveen stopped at the seventh step and prayed with folded hands there and then headed towards ‘Swargadwar’, the cremation ground on the sea beach, to offer floral tribute at his late father Biju Patnaik’s samadhi, said sources.
