Bhubaneswar: Not to miss the opportunity arising out of the high profile visit of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh’s visit to Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that he would remind the PM about the long standing demand of according Special Category status to the State.
Mr. Patnaik will hand over a memorandum to Dr.Singh, highlighting Odisha’s demand for special category status (SCS), official sources said.
It is noteworthy to mention that Odisha has been demanding special category status since 1977 last for the all round development of the State but the Central Government had not yet conceded to the demand.
The Chief Minister said he would also raise the issue of imposing the Mineral resource rent tax on iron ore at the rate of 50 per cent tax on the super normal profit made by the mine owners.
Mr Patnaik had already written twice on the issue to the Prime Minister and suggested that the collected tax should be given to the State Government for improving social and physical infrastructure, strengthening welfare measures and improving the livelihood of the people of the State.
