Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister (PM) Manmohan Singh, after inaugurating the 99th Indian Science Congress, spent about 40 minutes, much beyond his 15 minute schedule at the Congess Bhawan, where he met senior State party leaders.
The PM’s reaction came in response to Congress leaders demanding CBI probe against the State Government, including the mining scam and allegations of misutilization of Central funds meant for various welfare schemes.
As per source, after the discussions were over, PCC president handed over a memorandum to PM covering nine important demands on it such as under-utilisation and misuse of Central funds by the State Government, scams during BJD rule, Demand for enhancement of royalty on iron ore, coal, chromites and bauxite, special Central package for development of tribal and Maoist-affected areas, farmers’ problems, uneven distribution of Central institutions in the State, establishment of a permanent bench of the Odisha High Court in Western and Southern Odisha in accordance with the Jaswant Singh Commission report and improvement of railway infrastructure.
During the discussions, Singh said, “I know everything but the situation is unfavourable. I will certainly look into this and appropriate action will be taken at the right time.”
Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh, AICC General Secretary Vinaya Sorkey, Mirza Ersad Baig and Odisha incharge Jagdish Tytler and senior Congress leader Narasingh Mishra were present at the meeting.
