Koraput: Maoists triggered a land mine and torched four mobile towers in two districts of Odisha on the eve of the first day of the two day bandh call on Wednesday.
The rebels set fire to battery rooms and equipment of four cell towers in Ganjam district, while they triggered a landmine blast near Srirampur village in Kandhamal district. However no injury or loss of life has been reported.
The Maoists have left posters on two spots urging the people to observe bandh for two days from today.
Normal life in naxal infested Muniguda areas of Rayagada district has been badly affected due to the two day bandh call. Large number of Maoist posters were found at Muniguda bus stand. The Maoists have opposed the anti-Maoist operation in the State and threatened the Vedanta employees to quit jobs.
Communications on the Muniguda-Chandrapur routes was halted. Government buses went off the Rayagada-Berhampur road.
The effect of the bandh call too was witnessed in several parts of Kandhmal district. Communcations has been badly hampered in Daringbadi and Kotgada blocks.
Buses stopped plying on the Jeypore-Damanjodi , Jeypore-Phulbani and Jeypore-Malkangiri routes. The bandh call had no impact in Gajapati.
