Bhubaneswar: Even so having more threat from Maoists, Odisha would not get any additional central force for the panchayat polls in February from Centre. Instead, the state would have to send five companies of its police force for elections in five states, including Uttar Pradesh, said official sources on Wednesday.

The Union Government have requested the State Government and pressed for 15 companies (around 1500 men) from India Reserve Battalion (IRB), for which the Centre gives grants, for the upcoming polls. But more central force is needed in the State, said sources.

It may be noted that eight battalion of CRPF, five battalions of BSF and one battalions of Cobra are currently engaged in the State.

Director General of Police (DGP) Manmohan Praharaj said, “We will do the best possible arrangements under the circumstances. If required, we will use helicopters in Maoist areas.”
