Bhubaneswar: Irate students of the Utkal University Law College at Vani Vihar on Friday ransacked office and classrooms, broke glass fixtures and torched wooden furniture after their demands were not met by the authorities.

They alleged that there were five classrooms instead of eight, no common rooms and the library was functioning in an asbestos house in temporary manner. The college and the university authorities had turned a deaf ear to their repeated demands, they said.

It may be noted that the police rushed to the campus and controlled the situation. But everything was over by then.

On the other hand, the college authorities refuted the allegations and said they have been providing basic facilities for their curriculum and everything is all right.

The Students’ Union also warned the authorities to take immediate step to solve the problems in the college or else they will take further actions, they added.
