Bhubaneswar: After the detection of bird flu virus in Keranga village in Khurda district, the State Government on Monday alerted the Collectors of all 30 districts to take precautionary measures.
A two-member central team from Delhi is expected to arrive in Bhubaneswar soon to take stock of the situation. Wildlife officials of Chilika and Bhitarkanika, the two major birding sites, were asked by the State Government to enhance surveillance and moniter the avian creature constantly.
State Fisheries and Animal Resources Department Secretary Satyabrata Sahu said, the State Government had asked the administrations of all districts to take blood samples from the birds suspected to be carrying the H5N1 virus and to send them for examination.
“There is no need to panic as we have put necessary surveillance measures in different places. We have asked the District Collectors to ban export of poultry birds from the affected area with immediate effect,” Sahu said.
