Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday ordered a judicial probe into the alleged gangrape incident in Pipili in Puri district.

Meanwhile, Director General of Police Manmohan Praharaj suspended the then Inspector-in-Charge of Pipili police station, Amulya Kumar Champatiray, on charges of negligence of duty, basing on the report of the Superintendent of Police, Puri. Though the victim’s family had lodged an FIR on the incident on November 18, 2011, the Pipili police did not registerthe FIR.

The police registered the case only on January 9, 2012 after the Odisha High Court, and Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) intervened.

Talking to the mediapersons, Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik said Justice P K Mohanty will head the commission. It will submit report within three months.
