Rourkela: Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) closed down two units on Monday after the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) refused to allow them to function any more.
RSP has closed the Sinter Plant-1 and the No 3 MP Boiler of its Captive Power Plant after following the direction of SPCB on December 19 last year for creating high-level pollution.
According to RSP, the closure will cut down its steel production by about 40 per cent. The plant also informed the SPCB about their pollution control measures and it has prepared an action plan to check pollution. The RSP also requested the SPCB to permit operation of these two units since it had already conformed to the directions.
