Jagatsinghpur: As many as 2970 warrants are pending in several police stations across the Jagatsinghpur district but police receives inconspicuous implementing warrant drive and nabbing these fugitive accused persons.

Report said that Kujanga police station has registered a highest of 575 numbers of warrants and Marine police station at Paradeep has registered a lowest of 37. Warrants in other police stations such as Balikuda 262, Erasama 255, Raghunathpur 205, Paradeep 320, Lock Thana 195, Tirtol 372, Biridi 162 Naugon 195 and Jagatsinghpur town police station 392 are still pending.

As the three tier Panchayat poll is under progress, State Election Commission (SEC) has asked the police to implement the pending warrants and to arrest the accused persons with a motive to conduct the elections process incident free
and fair. Meanwhile the advisory cops have started special manhunt to implement the warrant drive in their police stations but are yielding less satisfactory results, report said.

On defense, police is pleading that in most of cases, the respective courts have issued arrest warrant (bailable or non bailable) against the accused persons who are not cooperating court proceedings and are skipping court orders. Now they are being advised to appear in courts for obtaining bail.

“We are taking sincere efforts to capture the pending warrantees.Night patrolling have been tightened in all police stations to arrest the accused persons those whose names figure in pending warrant list. Warrant list has been exhibited in each Gram Panchayat office enabling people to be alert”,informed S Devadatta Singh Superintendent of police.

However as per section 22 of the Peoples Representation Act, the election officer should delete the names of voters against whose non bailable warrants are pending for more than six months, but the persons should be heard by
election officer before exclusion.
