Bhubaneswar: After Keranga in Khurda district, the State Government on Tuesday ordered culling of around 5,000 poultry birds in a radius of 3 kilometers from Bahanada village in Mayurbhanj district following confirmation of existence of bird flu virus in the area.
With the direction of the Union Animal Husbandry Ministry, Odisha Government gave its nod in favour of culling of birds in around 30 villages of Bahanada from today. District Collector of Mayurbhanj and Veterinary officials have already been put on the job.
The High Security Animal Disease Laboratory (HSADL) at Bhopal had confirmed bird flu virus from one of the samples out of the 41 sent from Betanoti region on Sunday.
The Fisheries and Animal Husbandry Department said, the culling will start with immediate effect. Compensation for the poultry farmers and owners of birds has also been announced by the Government.
Sufficient number of protective masks and kits have already been placed for the teams which will carry out the culling. Over 20 teams have been set for this purpose, said Officials of State Animal Husbandry and Veterinary services.
Meanwhile, surveillance continued in Keranga region where the Government has killed around 31,886 poultry birds.
